RTV Covers Vatican Sex Abuse Summit in Rome
Remnant TV was in Rome this past week covering the Vatican’s clerical sexual abuse summit on the “protection of minors”. It seemed a dismal assignment, to be sure, but the reason it was necessary for The Remnant to be in the Eternal City was so we could throw in with our traditional Catholic allies in Rome who’d organized an act of formal resistance to the Vatican sham summit.
Going in, we all knew that the ultimate goal of the summit was to establish child abuse—not rampant homosexuality in the priesthood—as the main cause of a crisis in the Catholic Church which now rivals that of the Protestant Revolt. Thought of the Day: All practicing Roman Catholic soldiers in WWII were "traditional Catholics" who attended the Latin Mass exclusively. So what happened?
One of the distressing complaints so often heard from those who attend the Novus Ordo Liturgy is: “I didn’t get anything out of that Mass.” Such persons should be reminded that Catholics traditionally did not come to Mass to be entertained; rather then, as now, the main focus for attending Mass is to worship Almighty God.
The God-centered Traditional Latin Mass offers a remedy to those wayward souls in the form of the “Commemoration of the Living.” For those who attend the Mass of the Ages, the Commemoration of the Living, at the beginning of the Canon of the Mass, makes it abundantly clear what we hope “to get” out of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

"Speaking to the BBC outside of the climate change talks in Paris, the cardinal suggested that limiting births can 'offer a solution' to difficulties such as water and food shortages that are said to come from overpopulation and climate change. 'The amount of population that is critical for the realisation of this is still something we need to discover, yet the Holy Father has also called for a certain amount of control of birth.'

REMNANT COMMENT There they go again, these traditionalists. I mean, did Cardinal Turkson even bother to check the original text of the Pope's statement? No, of course not! He just went right ahead and took the media's word for it, that the Pope is calling for birth control. Obviously, the Pope never said this, and even if he did he didn't mean it. What he probably meant to say is there needs to be greater control of berths--that is, a reduction of the number of berths on trains and onboard ships so the people will stay home with their families and not travel abroad so much, which is death to the environment.
This is getting ridiculous. Here's Francis--divinely appointed by God to be Pope and to be infallible in everything and to never be questioned by ANYONE, ever, no matter what he says--trying to lead the world to Christ and be all humble and merciful and everything, and then along comes this traditionalist, radical extremist, fundementalist Cardinal Peter Turkson just making stuff up about our pope.
I'm tired of it! I LOVE THE POPE. Let me say it again, in case you didn't hear me the first time: I . LOVE . THE . POPE!

REMNANT COMMENT: You know what, Your Excellency? Call us when the shuttle lands! In your delusional little world do you seriously imagine that Catholics still give two hoots about anything you prattle on about? Your credibility as worldwide moral authority is in the toilet--you know that, right?
Why? Well, let’s think about that for minute:
- The liturgy you and your modernist predators...I mean predecessors concocted has been so "trivialized" (according to Pope Benedict himself) that many faithful Catholics refuse to expose their children to it for fear of loss of faith. According to "Forming Intentional Disciples" by Sherry Weddell, only 30 percent of Americans who were raised Catholic are still practicing (p. 24), 10 percent of all adults in America are ex-Catholics (p. 25), nearly 80 percent of cradle Catholics are no longer Catholic by the age of 23 (p. 33). Well played, wouldn't you say Excellency?
- By all accounts, under your generation's watch the mighty Catholic school system has become a joke, leaving many faithful Catholics determined to educate their children at home if they want them to have a Catholic education;
- Your doctrine is increasingly heterodox, to such an extent that many faithful Catholics (myself included) wouldn't let most of you guys teach catechism to their kids;
- Maniacal Islamic extremists are cutting the heads off Christians all over the place and driving the survivors by the tens of thousands from their homelands, and for the most part the Vatican continues to observe a bizarre ecumenical silence.
- Abortion continues to claim the lives of millions of babies every year, and yet you folks have decided that it's good form to abandon any talk of Humanae Vitae lest it offend your new pals over at the United Nations.
- Every other day there's another scandal involving one of your brother princes (the latest involves Cardinal Dolan, of course, being sued for allegedly helping to cover for priests using collection plate funds to finance their sadomasochism addiction);
- The priest/sex scandal has led to the creation of laws--eccelsial and secular--whereby parents can not (and will not) allow their children to be alone even for a few moments with the alter Christi. Think of the longterm ramifications of THAT!
Need I go on? With all of this rot providing context, you're seriously going to sit up there like some tinhorn dictator and tell us that under pain of mortal sin we need to accept Pope Francis's insufferably politically correct, anti-air conditioner, pro-tree-hugging, gas-bag drivel? Really?! (You guys don't even believe in mortal sin anymore, do you?)
Right! Well, I hereby declare and do solemnly proclaim that you are obliged under pain of mortal sin to read the following document, which will be of great assistance to you should you ever decide to get your head out of the ground. Failure to comply with this order will incur the wrath of Almighty God and of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul (remember them? Maybe you've seen pictures...)

Pope Celestine V (r. 1294), recognizing his incapacity for the office to which he had so unexpectedly been elected as the hermit Peter of Morrone, and seeing the grave harm his bad governance had caused, resigned the papacy after a reign of only five months. He was canonized in 1313 by Pope Clement V. Pope Boniface VIII, removing any doubt about the validity of such an extraordinary papal act, confirmed in perpetuity (ad perpetuam rei memoriam) that “the Roman Pontiff may freely resign.”
A growing number of Catholics, including cardinals and bishops, are coming to recognize that your pontificate, also the result of an unexpected election, is likewise causing grave harm to the Church. It has become impossible to deny that you lack either the capacity or the will to do what your predecessor rightly observed a pope must do: “constantly bind himself and the Church to obedience to God’s Word, in the face of every attempt to adapt it or water it down, and every form of opportunism.”

This just in from the Catholic Herald: "The bishops of England and Wales have appealed to Rome to change the Good Friday prayer for Jews as it is said in the Extraordinary Form.
The prayer reads: “Let us also pray for the Jews: that our God and Lord may illuminate their hearts, that they acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Saviour of all men.”
The prayer was revised by Benedict XVI in 2008 after he permitted wider celebration of Mass in the older form with his apostolic letter Summorum Pontificum. Previously the prayer had included references to the “blindness” of Jewish people and their “immersion in darkness”.
But the prayer remains different from the Novus Ordo version introduced after the Second Vatican Council, which reads: “Let us pray for the Jewish people, the first to hear the word of God, that they may continue to grow in the love of his name and in faithfulness to his covenant.”
Archbishop Kevin McDonald, chairman of the bishops’ Committee for Catholic-Jewish Relations, said the difference had caused “great confusion and upset in the Jewish community”. READ MORE HERE

On the Good Friday 'Prayer for the Jews'

The Prayer for the Jews used in the Extraordinary Form Good Friday Liturgy continues to be a source of comment and misunderstanding, and the FIUV wishes to respond as follows.
Statement by the President of the FIUV, Felipe Alanís Suárez
It was to avoid misunderstandings of the Prayer for the Jews that Pope Benedict XVI composed the 2008 version of the prayer, which is clearly based on what is essential to Christianity: the acceptance of Christ as the saviour of the whole world, and the desire that all persons be saved.
Jews are mentioned because of their special role in the history of salvation, and the special concern we must have for our ‘elder brothers’ (as Pope St John Paul II called them). The prayer looks forward to the incorporation of the Jewish people, of which Our Lord Jesus Christ and His first disciples were all members, in the salvation won for the human race by Christ on the Cross, a reconciliation which, as St Paul teaches, will be fulfilled only towards the end of history.
The FIUV is convinced that any possible continuing misunderstanding regarding the Good Friday Prayer for the Jews can be resolved in the context of the Magisterium of the Church, without veiling the treasures of our Faith.
We, as faithful attached to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, acknowledge that to ask of our Lord for the grace of sharing with all our brothers the joy of salvation in Jesus Christ, is an act of humility and selfless love, and a spiritual work of mercy.
The FIUV entirely rejects all hatred and hostility towards the Jewish people, and all forms of unjust discrimination.
Further observations
1. Although the Novus Ordo Good Friday Prayer for the Jews does not explicitly refer to Jews acknowledging Christ as Saviour, other prayers in the revised liturgy do so. The Novus Ordo Vespers of Easter Sunday includes the prayer ‘Let Israel recognize in you the Messiah it has longed for’; the Morning Office of 30th December includes the prayer ‘Christ, Son of David, fulfilment of the prophecies, may the Jewish people accept you as their awaited Deliverer [Latin: Messiah].’
2. In their daily prayers, Jews pray for the conversion of ‘all of the impious of the earth’. Rabbi Jacob Neusner, responding to criticisms of the 2008 Prayer for the Jews, pointed out the parallel with the Prayer for the Jews and remarked ‘The Catholic prayer manifests the same altruistic spirit that characterizes the faith of Judaism.’ (Die Tagespost,23 Feb 2008)[1]
3. Walter, Cardinal Kasper, defended the 2008 prayer, explaining that a hope that Jews accept Christ, which may be fulfilled only by God, rather than by targeted proselytism, and eschatologically (at the end of history), is nothing more than a necessary consequence of the Christian faith.
A sincere dialogue between Jews and Christians, …is possible only, on the one hand, on the basis of a shared faith in one God, creator of heaven and earth, and in the promises made to Abraham and to the Fathers; and on the other, in the awareness and respect of the fundamental difference that consists in faith in Jesus as Christ and Redeemer of all men. Background
1. The prayer used today in the Extraordinary Form was composed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008, in response to concerns about the wording of the previously used prayer, and runs as follows:
Let us also pray for the Jews: that our God and Lord may illuminate their hearts, that they acknowledge Jesus Christ is the Saviour of all men.
2. It is recited, in Latin, once a year, in the small number of churches worldwide where the Good Friday Liturgy is celebrated in the Extraordinary Form. It forms part of a series of prayers for different categories of persons, both within and without the Church, the latter including heretics and pagans. In each case the celebrant prays for God’s graces for them. This pattern is followed in the reformed, 1970 (‘Novus Ordo’) Missal, although the wording of the prayers is different.[3]
3. The prayer is based on Scripture, notably St Paul. The image of ‘light’ penetrating the hearts of the Jews is drawn from 2 Cor 4:3-6; St Paul speaks of the eventual conversion of the Jews in Romans 11:25-26. Romans 11:29 says of the Jewish Covenant that God ‘never revokes His promises’, which is quoted by Vatican II’s Nostra aetate, and by Pope St John Paul II, as the basis for a special affection and respect which Christians owe the Jewish people.[4]
