I want to recommend
to everyone for immediate viewing what I consider to be
one of the most brilliant pieces of political satire
ever done in the TV medium: Jon Stewart's "Why is
Everyone Still Ignoring Ron Paul?" I laughed
uncontrollably as Stewart deliciously skewered the mass
media for their ridiculous pretense that Paul, who
nearly won the Iowa straw poll, coming within less than
200 votes of winner Bachmann, is not even in the race.
Paul, should he stay
within striking distance of the top, would be the only
viable candidate who is not a cookie-cutter promoter of
the domestic and foreign policy status quo. In a field
of the usual white bread Protestant/Mormon non-entities,
Paul at least speaks from the heart. The very fact that
his voice reached a high-pitched indignant whine during
the first debate endears him to me. He was not even
trying to appear "presidential," like the robots on
either side of him, but rather to speak with real human
emotion about the fiscal and foreign policy madness that
grips both parties. With all his liberal flaws, in a
field consisting entirely of liberals of one sort or
another---as always in America---Paul would have to be
an improvement over the status quo worth voting for.
Which is why the media are desperately avoiding any
mention of his name and second-place position lest a
bandwagon get rolling. Watch and enjoy: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/entertainment/2011/08/jon-stewart-ron-paul/41311/ |
