ROME:
The announcement that Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera
would celebrate the pontifical in the extraordinary rite
in St. Peter's on Nov. 3, on the final day of the Una
Cum Papa Nostro traditionalist pilgrimage to Rome
(1-3 November 2012) promoted by CISP (Coetus
Internationalis Summorum Pontificum), came at the
same time of the release of the final programme for that
day. In much the same way, with the release of the final
programme for the other two days of the pilgrimage came
the news that at least other two senior prelates will be
involved in the celebration of collateral rites in the
extraordinary form: Cardinal Walter Brandmüller, who was
President of the Pontifical Committee for Historical
Sciences from 13 June 1998 until 3 December 2009, and
Msgr. Giuseppe Sciacca, secretary of the Vatican
Governorate.
The 1-2
November celebrations were recommended by Fr Claude
Barthe, the official chaplain of the pilgrimage, who
invited each participant group to organize a prayer
meeting or a celebration at least the day before
November 3rd.
More in
detail, Cardinal Walter Brandmüller will celebrate a
pontifical “Omnium Sanctorum” on Thursday,
November 1st, All Saints Day, at 10:30 am at
the Church of Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini,
Via dei Pettinari 36/A, on the margins of
Trastevere area, the heart of ancient-medieval Rome. For
those who are not aware, this church was erected as
personal parish, assigned and reserved by the Pope to
Rome’s traditional community and is presently under the
responsibility of the Fraternity of St. Peter. And
again, for those who are not aware, Cardinal Canizares
won’t be the first to celebrate a pontifical at the
Chair in St. Peter’s: the very Cardinal Brandmüller was
the celebrant of an old rite pontifical there on May 17th,
2011, at the conclusion of a symposium on the motu
proprio Summorum Pontificum held in Rome the
previous days.
On
Friday, November 2, a pontifical Mass of requiem Pro
Omnibus Defunctis (All Souls' Day) will be
celebrated by Msgr. Giuseppe Sciacca, secretary of the
Vatican Governorate, again in the church of
Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini at 6:30 pm.
But there
will also other religious services in Santissima
Trinità dei Pellegrini those days, which include
vespers and other regular masses in the extraordinary
rite.
For its
part, also FIUV - Una Voce (Foederatio
Internationalis Una Voce) has arranged its own
devotional programme for the two days preceding the
conclusive events on November 3rd.
As aptly
pointed out in the FIUV website, “to help the
pilgrims during their stay in Rome our FIUV Secretary,
Thomas Murphy, has arranged additional services for
Thursday (1st) and Friday (2nd)”.
Thursday,
November 1st , a mass in the Extraordinary Form of the
Roman Rite will be offered at 11.00 am at the Church of
Sant'Agata dei Goti, Via Mazzarino 16,
adjacent to Via Nazionale and Mercati Traianei.
Fr. John Hunwicke will be the celebrant and preacher.
He will also lead the other traditional evening
devotions for the day, including the Holy Rosary and
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament , scheduled to take
place at 3.30 pm at Basilica of Santissimi XII
Apostoli, Piazza Santi Apostoli 51, at the
end of Via del Corso on the left hand side, with
Piazza Venezia on your right hand side.
The
following day, Friday, 2nd November, with the same
celebrant and preacher, the mass will be celebrated at
the same church, Sant'Agata dei Goti, but at a
different time, 11:00 am. The church will not change for
the evening devotions, again the Holy Rosary and
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament: they will take
place at Sant'Agata dei Goti, where the
pilgrims will have to come back at 5 pm.
