On the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Supreme Court Overturns Roe v Wade

This Friday morning, on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (to Whom the month of June is dedicated—NOT to LGBT Pride) SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, ending recognition of a constitutional "right to abortion" and giving individual states the power to allow, limit, or ban the practice altogether.

The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives. -Justice Alito

The case, Dobbs v. Jackson, centered on a Mississippi law which banned abortion after 15 weeks. Mississippi Solicitor General, Scott Stewart, argued in support of the law, and also argued that Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey be overturned. Both of these previous, landmark cases had prevented States from prohibiting abortions at certain times during gestation.

"We end this opinion where we began," Justice Samuel Alito wrote. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives."

It's reported that least 13 Republican-led states have already passed "trigger laws," in the event Roe is overturned, that would immediately restrict access to abortion if the Supreme Court went so far as to overturn the 50-year precedent.

In the run-up to the midterm elections, it looks more and more as though the abortion issue is at the heart of the division in this country.

Although some may argue that the decision does not end the war, it is a monumental one in our nation's battle against the Culture of Death.

This year's Chartres Pilgrimage (June 4-6, 2022), the return of the event after two years of lockdown, was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is not unthinkable to speculate that the grace which this annual event brought back to the world contributed to today's SCOTUS decision. Michael Matt's RTV team is working on a powerful documentary of the Chartres Pilgrimage, due out in July. Keep an eye out for that!

In the run-up to the midterm elections, it looks more and more as though the abortion issue is at the heart of the division in this country. It is time for Traditional Catholic pro-lifers in America to fight the Culture of Death under the banner of the Kingship of Christ and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This year's Catholic Identity Conference—to take place in Pittsburgh, September 30-October 2—is pleased to welcome back one such pro-life warrior, Abby Johnson. If you would like to meet Abby in person, hear her speak, and network with like-minded pro-lifers and activists, registration is now open for the largest Traditional Catholic conference in America at CatholicIdentityConference.org.

Keep praying you rosaries, friends. The Children of Light just won a round, and what comes next, God only knows. At least we can be sure of this: we're on the winning Team.

Look for Michael Matt's commentary on today's decision in his next Remnant Underground show, premiering this Sunday at 7 CST.
