In several previous interviews with Francis, atheist journalist, Eugenio Scalfari, reported that the Pontiff told him proselytism is solemn nonsense, truth is relative, Jesus was not God at all, and Hell doesn’t exist. The Vatican occasionally had to make statements following these whoppers indicating that Scalfari’s account of these interviews are unreliable. So, of course, what does Francis do? Grants Scalfari another interview.

This time there were not as many heresies, blasphemies, and apostasies. However, there were still inanities and absurdities as any interview with Francis will inevitably contain. The far left, Jesuit, (but I repeat myself) magazine “America” reported the story on August 2. Apparently, the old doddering man who questions God and Scalfari partook in an hour long conversation about the environment. I’m fairly certain that Francis previously took a strong moral stand against torture. However it is not at all apparent how this position is consistent with a 97 year old having to listen to Francis talk for an hour.

Fortunately Scalfari doesn’t take notes or make recordings, so we don’t have to read or listen to them. Instead we can only discuss Scalfari’s synopsis which may have actually taken place or may have taken place in one of the dream like trances he drifted off to while having to converse with the Jesuit pope for an hour. We will never know for certain as Francis never comments or clarifies any of the interviews himself. The only way we will ever see Francis immediately correct a Scalfari interview is if Scalfari reported that Francis told him he likes Trump and wants to MAGA.

In this gem of an interview, the two best friends discussed “the grave ecological crisis facing humanity.” The first sign an interview is going to go nowhere is when the topic being discussed doesn’t exist. For there is no more an ecological crisis in 2020 than there has been in any other time on earth. However, as far as the left and the Neo-Catholics are concerned, they could have substituted any word followed by the word “crisis” and the interview would be taken seriously.

For instance, Scalfari and Francis could have sat down to talk about the “economic crisis, the “political crisis,” the “corporate crisis,” the “sociological crisis,” the “population crisis,” or the “northern Apennines marmot crisis,” and the leftist / Neo-Catholic media would have suddenly believed that such a crisis not only exists, but is of the utmost importance. Why? Because the pope chose to discuss it with a 97 year old atheist. Ironically, the only “crisis” the left and Neo-Catholics refuse to discuss is the actual crisis in the Church which has been going on now for 55 years and counting.

Interestingly, the two met at Santa Marta, the Vatican guesthouse where Francis lives. In spite of the Vatican recently publishing an entire book of Francis’ “lockdown” homilies regarding the Coronavirus, Scalfari said of Francis, “We are truly friends,” and reported that “we could not but embrace physically and mentally.” Thus, Francis was fine when it came to shutting down Masses worldwide, depriving Catholics of the sacraments, and in many cases restricting funeral sizes over Covid-19.

However, the 83 year old author of the “lockdown” homilies, who has only one lung, has no problem inviting a 97 year old atheist into his home and physically embracing him. If no liberals or Neo-Catholics are enraged at Francis’ theology, perhaps the Karens among them will be sufficiently enraged at this flagrant lack of social distancing to try to force him to abdicate for that reason alone.

In any case, my favorite part of the interview was when Scalfari and Francis discussed Vatican II. “This time, [Scalfari] said, they spoke first about modern society, which began with the period of the Enlightenment, and how the church has to come to terms with the changes in society, as the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) made clear. He said Francis told him that the church has not yet fully implemented that council, and saw his own task as continuing that work.”

For those of you who are counting, that means that Vatican II has still not been “fully implemented” a full 55 years after it was signed. As a reminder, of precisely how long that has been, here are some events that happened in 1965:

  • In St. Louis, Missouri, the 630-foot-tall parabolic steel Gateway Arch is completed ( The St Louis Arch ).

Muhammad Ali knocked out Sonny Liston

  • Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as President.

  • The Sound of Music debuted.

Sound of Music

Inspired by this last historical event, I wonder what Francis believes are the highlights of at least the incomplete implementation of the Council over the last 55 years?

In any case, if you thought Scalfari and Francis discussing an ecological crisis was inane, you will not be prepared for what comes next. As the Church leaks members like a sieve and the world slouches towards global Marxism, Francis and his 97 year old atheist chum pondered, yes, you guessed it, “the ageing of the sun.” No, I’m not making this up.

Apparently the article says this is something discovered by scientists. Is this not very old news? I can remember reading about the cycles of stars (red giant, white dwarf, etc.) in elementary school. I re-read the article to make sure Scalfari did not say aging “from” the sun” which would most likely lead to a global sunscreen co-initiative between the Vatican and Coppertone. But alas, no. The Pope is actually spending time discussing star cycles with a 97 year old atheist, yet he has no time to answer Vigano. Makes sense.

Scalfari said that Francis told him, “let us remember the places that are full of bio-diversity—the Amazon and Congo basin rainforests with their great aquifers, and the great importance of these for the entire planet and for the future of humanity.” Yes, if you are taking notes, please add the “aquifer crisis” to the list of things to be extremely concerned about, according to the current pontiff.

In conclusion, Scalfari, “[R]ecalled that the pope spoke of how the oceans and rivers are changing, and said ‘the technicians [scientists] are concerned about them, but politics [the political world] is focused on other problems.’ He quoted Francis as saying that ‘all the Christian communities have an important role to play in educating people about this.’”

So your Pope, the Vicar of Christ on Earth and successor to Peter wants you to know, dear Christian, that...”oceans and rivers are changing.” Of course oceans and rivers have changed since the beginning of time, are still changing, and will forever change, but I suppose that is neither here nor there. I suppose that when one ignores every existing true crisis around oneself, one can go about making up crises based on middle school science.

In fairness, I suppose maybe the “lockdown” has gotten to Francis and Scalfari and not being tech savvy and also locked in their left wing information bubble they believe they have time to worry about fictional crises. It sure beats trying to find solutions to the real ones as Francis has shown no inclination to even make an attempt.

No, dear reader, Abp. Vigano’s questions will not be answered, adulterers will continue to receive sacrilegious Communion, Bishops will continue to refuse the Faithful Communion on the tongue, Catholics will continue to lose the Faith, and vocations will continue to plummet. But take heart! Although aging, the sun is not yet dead, there are still aquifers in the Amazon, and Vatican II is still being implemented.

When he is not busy denying Adam was a “literal figure,” claiming there is “reasonable hope” no souls are in Hell, and assuring Ben Shapiro that Christ is merely the “priveleged route” to salvation, it seems Bishop Robert Barron likes to spend his free time attacking Traditional Catholics.

In an August 3 National “Catholic” Distorter piece, author Christopher White informs us that Barron hosted an “invite-only” Zoom meeting on July 29. Was this meeting to discuss Pope Francis’ troubling July 26 tweet that, on the memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, referred to them as Jesus’ “grandparents” in quotation marks?

Was it to discuss what should be done about Vatican II and the New Mass as they continue to speed up the decline and fall of the Faith around the globe?

Was it to finally condemn the promotion of the pagan Pachamama idol at the Amazon synod?

In a July 13th article, Italian journalist, Sandro Magister, penned an article entitled, “The ‘Fake News’ of Vigano and Company. Unmasked by a Cardinal.” In the article, Magister states that Cardinal Walter Brandmuller sent Bishop Athanasius Schneider a “summary of the inaccuracies” in Schneider’s June 24th statement where the bishop cited two examples of doctrinal errors of previous councils that had later been corrected by the Church. Brandmuller claims that the Council of Constance, approved by Martin V, did not contain error, as Schneider states, and that the Council of Florence, which designated the necessary matter for priestly ordination, did not contain doctrinal error either, as the matter for sacraments is a discipline and not a doctrine.

Bishop Omits Reading the Creed to Avoid Offending Non-Catholics

On the Feast of the Epiphany, Bp. Derio Olivero of the diocese of Pinerolo, said Mass in the Cathedral of St. Donatus, near the city of Turin, Italy. Before the recitation of the creed, the bishop stated the following:

"Since there are also non-believers, everyone will say it silently…Those who believe can say it, and those who don't believe or have other beliefs will silently contemplate the reasons for their beliefs.”

While shocking to those new to Tradition, Remnant readers will recall that not offending the sensibilities of non-Catholics was the primary motivation of the architects of the New Mass.

Today’s Vatican bureaucracy is much like the USCCB. It is filled to the brim with political activists from various institutions and think-tanks who care not one whit about Catholic doctrine or the salvation of souls. This can be seen very clearly in the ongoing Amazon Synod. These types of people are constantly presenting and speaking on behalf of the Church at the Synod press conferences. They are clearly only interested in using the structures of the Catholic Church, and whatever influence and power these structures still have, to further their vision of a humanist, globalist, utopian society ruled by left-wing elites.  One element of this vision is to bring about a one world religion, which this synod marches boldly towards by calling for measures that would either weaken or destroy the Catholic priesthood. They surround this poisoned spiritual pill with justifications based on socialism, environmentalism, naturalism and pantheism.

In case we needed any more evidence that the United States media is anti-Christian, National Public Radio (NPR) titled an April 18th headline, Review: ‘Hail Satan?’ Is Devilishly Compelling. (Remember, NPR is partially funded by our tax dollars.)

The article is a movie review of a so-called documentary called “Hail Satan” which covers the goings-on of an organization called The Satanic Temple. NPR also aired an interview with the founder of the Satanic Temple who goes by the name “Lucian Greaves” and the director of the documentary, named “Penny Lane,” on April 27.  “Penny Lane” has won awards from liberal film festivals and previously made a short film in 2005 called “The Abortion Diaries” where she interviewed women about their abortions.

Mr. Greaves founded the Satanic Temple to irritate Christians, but also as an activist group to make a point about the concept of religious freedom.

Ironically, Mr. Greaves’ point on religious freedom stands as an embarrassment for the Neo-Catholics and Vatican II. For the Council and its promoters, including Fr. John Courtney Murray, helped jettison the centuries-old concept of the Catholic Confessional State and replaced it with religious liberty.

Religious liberty is the idea that the state should make no distinction between the one true religion founded by Jesus Christ and any sort of heretical, schismatic, or pagan sect.

penny lane interviewGreaves and Lane interviewed to promote "Hail Satan?"

In more recent times we have seen every Conciliar Pope as well as Neo-Catholic luminaries such as George Weigel praise the concept.

Well, Mr. Weigel and his ilk can now celebrate the fruits of their labors as the Internal Revenue Service has recently declared the Satanic Temple a “tax-exempt Church” under the tax code.  As the New York Times reports, “The group says the designation will help in religious discrimination legal cases and allow it to pursue faith-based government grants.”

The state’s recognition of “The Satanic Temple” as a religion, is, of course absurd. For a religion, by any meaningful definition of the word, includes the worship of a deity or deities. However, even though Mr. Greaves chose to name his organization after Satan, he admits he is nothing more than an atheist. For neither he nor his organization even believes in the existence of Satan. They simply use him as a metaphor for run-of-the-mill secular humanist ideals. Thus, the state of faith is so poor in the United States that Satanists don’t even believe in Satan anymore.

The entire organization then, is merely a bunch of atheist and anti-Christian activists with no real religion to speak of. They have fun using blasphemy to upset Christians and attempt to attack the religious liberty protections of Christians by obtaining those same protections for their pretend religion.

Yet, what can the Neo-Catholics say against it? For don’t they hold the Vatican II principle that the state is incompetent to intervene in religious affairs.

Even if the “Satanic Temple” truly did worship Satan as a god, how would they convince a state they think should be agnostic, that the Satanic religion should not enjoy the same protections as other religions? They can’t. Thus, in the ideal “Catholic” state of a George Weigel and Vatican II, “The Satanic Temple” would have just as many rights as the Catholic Church.

The God of 'Ultimate Inclusion'

An April 15 article on Cruxnow.com’s website is entitled, Irish archbishop: A church that marginalizes is a ‘God-less church.’ It states that the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, “was speaking April 13 during the celebration marking the 175th anniversary of the arrival of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Ireland. According to Crux, “Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said God is not ‘a God just of rules and norms,’ but a God ‘who prizes the freedom that enables each one of us to be the person that we are created to be.’”

VaticanNews.com summarized a recent Pope Francis homily as a reflection on the many different ways in which women are exploited in today’s society:

The Pope reminded his listeners that women are what men on their own lack to be the image and likeness of God.  He explained how Jesus’ words about women were radical and ground-breaking and “changed history.”  This was because up until then, a woman was considered “a second class citizen,” she was “enslaved” and “did not even enjoy complete freedom,” he said.

Jesus changed history

Jesus' doctrine about women changes history. Before Jesus the view about women was one thing but after Jesus they are another. Jesus dignifies women and puts them on the same level as men because he takes that first word of the Creator, both are "the image and likeness of God", both of them; not first the man and then a little lower down the woman, no, both are. And a man without a woman beside him - whether as a mother, as a sister, as a bride, as a working companion, as a friend - that man by himself is not the image of God.

Woman today are objects of desire even in our own societies

This is a sin against God the Creator, rejecting women because without her we men cannot be the image and likeness of God. There is an anger and resentment against women, a nasty anger. Even without saying it... But how many times do young women have to sell themselves as disposable objects in order to get a job? How many times? "Yes, Father, I heard in that country...". Here in Rome. There’s no need to go far away.

Look around us to see that exploitation

All this happens here in Rome, it happens in every city, anonymous women, women - we can describe as "faceless" because shame covers their faces, women who do not know how to laugh and many of them do not know the joy of breastfeeding their baby and the experience of being a mother.  But, even in our everyday life, without going to those places, there is this ugly way of thinking, of rejecting women or seeing her as a "second class" person.  We need to reflect more deeply about this.  And by doing this or saying this, by entering into this way of thinking, we despise the image of God, who made man and woman together with his image and likeness. This Gospel reading helps us to think about the marketing of women, a trade, yes, trafficking, that exploitation which is visible but also that trade which we can’t see but is taking place out of sight. A woman is trampled underfoot precisely because she is a woman.
