Esteemed Synod Fathers,

We thank you for your witness to and defense of the truth of Matrimony and Family proclaimed by the Church, in fidelity to our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Ordinary Synod on the Family continues its work, confusion and scandal spread among the faithful. Catholics are concerned that some members of this body of apostolic successors, under the guidance of the Pope, are seeking to endorse homosexual relationships, effectively question the indissolubility of marriage, and permit the distribution of the Holy Eucharist to the unrepentant. REMNANT COMMENT: I've signed this, and you should too. . . right away, in fact. Let's do this thing!
This just in from our friends at LifeSiteNews – Amid continuing concern about the Vatican press office’s “manipulation” of the family synod’s message, a priest who has been covering Vatican news for over 15 years had his credentials revoked last week, and was told to leave the premises “immediately.” The revocation came after he had challenged an archbishop following the October 6 press conference over comments claiming that allowing Communion for the divorced and remarried is up for debate.

Archbishop Paul-Andre Durocher made the comments in response to a reporter’s question about whether the matter pertained to Church discipline – which could potentially change – or doctrine, which is fixed.

“To be quite honest, there might be differences of opinion on that,” Durocher said. “Let’s be honest. Is that a question of doctrine or is that a question of discipline? I think that’s probably going to be one of the questions that will be debated in the small groups.” READ FULL REPORT HERE

REMNANT COMMENT: Did you ever think you'd live to see the day when ugly Stalinist tactics would rear their little heads at the heart of the Catholic Church and against faithful priests whose only "crime" is to publicly defend the infallible doctrine of Holy Mother Church? God help us, who are these men and what are they thinking?  Have Catholics not been scandalized enough?

This today from Sandro Magister: "Thirteen Cardinals Have Written to the Pope. Here’s the Letter. But Francis has rejected their requests en bloc. And meanwhile, the “Relatio finalis” has disappeared from the program of the synod

ROME, October 12, 2015 - On Monday, October 5, at the beginning of work at the synod on the family, Cardinal George Pell delivered a letter to Pope Francis, signed by him and twelve other cardinals, all present in the synod hall.

The thirteen signatories occupy positions of the first rank in the Church’s hierarchy. Among them there are, in alphabetical order:

- Carlo Caffarra, archbishop of Bologna, Italy, theologian, formerly the first president of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family;
- Thomas C. Collins, archbishop of Toronto, Canada;
- Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York, United States;
- Willem J. Eijk, archbishop of Utrecht, Holland;
- Gerhard L. Müller, former bishop of Regensburg, Germany, since 2012 prefect of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith;
- Wilfrid Fox Napier, archbishop of Durban, South Africa, president delegate of the synod underway as also at the previous session of the synod of October 2014;
- George Pell, archbishop emeritus of Sydney, Australia, since 2014 prefect in the Vatican of the secretariat for the economy;
- Robert Sarah, former archbishop of Conakry, Guinea, since 2014 prefect of the congregation for divine worship and the discipline - Angelo Scola, archbishop of Milan, Italy;
- Jorge L. Urosa Savino, archbishop of Caracas, Venezuela.

In the letter, concise and perfectly clear, the thirteen cardinals bring to the pope’s attention the serious “concerns” of themselves and other synod fathers over the procedures of the synod, in their judgment “designed to facilitate predetermined results on important disputed questions,” and over the “Instrumentum laboris,” viewed as inadequate as a “guiding text or the foundation of a final document.” READ REPORT HERE

REMNANT COMMENT:It is difficult to see how, after all of this, there won't be significant changes introduced to Church practice at the conclusion of this Synod. This Synod has all the makings of true totalitarian revolution at the highest levels of the Catholic Church. If we are proven wrong, then we’ll praise God for His merciful intervention.

This just in from The Week's Michael Brendan Dougherty: "In the next three weeks, I fully expect the leadership of my own One Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church to fall into apostasy, at the conclusion of the Synod on the Family that begins today in Rome. This is the outcome Pope Francis has shaped over the entirety of his pontificate, and particularly with his recent appointments. An event like this —heresy promulgated by the Pope and his bishops — is believed by most Catholics to be impossible. But they should be prepared for it anyway. This is not an ordinary religious conference, but one to be dreaded.

"My prediction is that, after much fixing and machinations by its leaders, the Synod on the Family will declare that the Holy Spirit led them to a new understanding of the truth. The Synod's leaders will adopt the position that those living in second marriages, irrespective of the status of their first marriage, should be admitted to Holy Communion."  READ FULL ARTICLE

REMNANT COMMENT: Yes, indeed. Now is the time for all Catholics to stand together, united and strong. A line has been drawn, they crossed it, and we will not back down. If the Vatican wants a civil war, they've got one. Catholics will be silent no longer.

This from Breitbart today: "On the eve of the Vatican synod on marriage and the family, progressive German Cardinal Walter Kasper has come out publicly against doctrinal “fundamentalism” in the Church, while expressing his hope that the synod will open a “dialogue” on contraception for Catholics and reconsider the situation of homosexuals.

"At a recent launch in Rome for his new book Witness to Mercy, the Cardinal complained of those who want to close off dialogue on certain issues as if they were settled forever.

"In his book, released to coincide with the opening of the synod, the Cardinal deals with a number of hot-button issues, such as homosexuality. “For me, this inclination is a question mark: it does not reflect the original design of God and yet it is a reality, because you are born gay,” he says in the book.

"Kasper advocates a more holistic approach to theology, while lamenting what he terms “a certain fundamentalism” in the Church. “You take one line of the Gospel and this becomes an ideology to support your case,” he said." READ REPORT HERE

REMNANT COMMENT  Okay now, remember, this crackpot is the "Pope's theologian."

This is the guy whose book Francis plugged by name during his very first Wednesday audience after his election as Pope.

This is the heretic Francis praised to the high heavens last year: "I would like to thank him [Cardinal Kasper], because I found a deep theology, and serene thoughts in theology. It is nice to read serene theology. It did me well and I had an idea, and excuse me if I embarrass Your Eminence, but the idea is: this is called doing theology while kneeling. Thank you. Thank you.”

That's right, this is the same Cardinal Kasper who is driving the Synod on the Family. The very same character who, according to Cardinal Godfried Daneels, worked feverishly since the pontificate of Pope John Paul II to get rid of Cardinal Ratzinger and to elevate Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the chair of St. Peter.  Did Kasper have anything to do with Pope Benedict’s bizarre abdication? OH, WHAT DO YOU THINK?!

Everybody okay with this? Neo-Catholics--we all good here? No worries?

I didn’t think so!

This just in from the Huffington Post: "Mo Rocca, an openly gay TV reporter and comic, played a starring role in Pope Francis’ Mass in New York City's Madison Square Garden Friday night, delighting LGBT rights advocates long critical of the Catholic Church's opposition to homosexuality.

"Rocca, a reporter for CBS Sunday Morning and former correspondent on The Daily Show, delivered the first, or Lector, Bible reading at the New York City Mass in Spanish. Rocca’s mother is Colombian.

I am deeply grateful and humbled to have delivered a reading at a Mass celebrated by @Pontifex, Rocca tweeted afterward."

REMNANT COMMENT: If the Holy Father cannot keep mixed messages, confusing signals, and colossal scandals out of his billion-dollar whirlwind tours then might faithful Catholics be forgiven for suggesting that these Eucharist-abusing liturgical extravaganzas be avoided in future?  And if this does not happen, and the scandals continue, how long do we give the Holy Father himself a pass when it comes to culpability? From Communion passed out of Dixie cups in Rio, to consecrated Hosts being passed back from person to person in the Philippines, and now this! Who’s in charge of the papal Mass madness, and is the ensuing scandal worth it?

This is getting ridiculous!

Papal Mass Madness

By:

This just in from 'First Things':  "No More Tirades", by R. R. Reno: "First Things stands for something. Many things, actually. One of them is a commitment to reality-based conservatism, both in matters of faith and of public life. I mention this, because I've decided to end our hosting of Maureen Mullarkey’s blog.

"Maureen has a sharp pen and pungent style. Her postings about Pope Francis indicate she’s very angry about this papacy, which she seems to view as (alternately) fascism and socialism disguised as Catholicism. This morning she put up a post that opens with the accusation that the Vatican is conspiring with the Obama administration to destroy the foundations of freedom and hobble the developed world. I've had my staff take it down."  READ MORE HERE

REMNANT COMMENT: Dear Mrs. Mullarkey: Many thanks for your courageous and principled commentary on the ongoing auto-demolition of the human element of our beloved Church. Some months ago, His Excellency Bishop Athanasius Schneider noted that:

"It is a sad truth that we are in a time of great crisis in the Church. God is with us, however. You have asked me what the faithful can do to combat the errors spreading through the Church. I would like to answer with some suggestions:

"We must create groups of true Catholics, scholars, families, and clergy who will spread courageously the full Catholic truth, especially on the Church’s teachings on the family, on nature, and the commandments of God.

"As a means to this aim, we must make use of all the resources that the modern world offers to us. We are not confined to waiting for the media to spread these messages. We do not have to wait for each individual pastor to preach them from the pulpit. We should embrace the new media forms that allow us to spread the Gospel and the teachings of our Holy Mother, the Church. We should take our message to the Internet, publish it on websites, blogs, and social media."

In light of the Bishop's urgent message it would seem that your "Tirades" represent the sort of faithful Catholic resistance most needed in service of our Church in crisis. Therefore, we'd like to cordially invite you to consider the pages of The Remnant an alternative venue for your outstanding commentary. We'd be honored to have you.

This just in from Crisis Magazine: Much has been written about the Pope’s humility, and he himself has often spoken about the need for humility. Yet it is possible to detect a certain amount of hubris in the positions he takes on political and scientific matters.

For example, it takes a certain level of hubris for a man to take a public stand on the threat of global warming when he has no background in the subject, and when the evidence for global warming is sketchy. READ HERE

REMNANT COMMENT Hell just froze over. Pope Francis has accomplished what was long thought unthinkable: He has begun to awaken the neo-Catholics. Long Live Pope Francis.

Why Pope Francis and his team show not the least bit of concern for the fact that despite the wild cheers of the mob that greeted the papal Fiat--a mob that couldn't care any less about the doctrines of the Catholic faith by the way--they are infuriating the defenders of what's left of conservatism throughout the world may just be the most foreboding sign of all so far. Why don't they care? What sort of wild coup do they have in mind? They have our buildings, our institutions, our offices and THEY JUST DON'T CARE who is onto them and who is not. They're going for it, God help us. They’re going for it all.

This from Maureen Mullarkey at the First Things website:
"The pope, too, has a pen and a phone. Has Francis’ motu proprio trumped the Synod? Or handicapped conservatives? Hard to say. But one thing now is certain: Marriage is indissoluble except when it is not. Put another way, indissolubility is revealed to be more soluble than we had previously understood.

"Analyses of this latest twist of the mercy spanner have been piling up. Papal apologists offer their expected apologias; critics beg to differ. Among those with differences are some very serious, informed voices. Some insist nothing has changed; neater and kinder is all. Others discern a material shift: The language of endurance—until death do us part—still stands but the substance can be had gluten-free. Annulments are on track to be dispatched in short order; even, according to some commentators, in cases where one spouse contests. And a slam dunk is anticipated if both parties want out. Craft the right narrative, and your marriage never existed.

"It is better to leave judgments on the complexities of canon law to others. But impressions are admissible. And, given the range of responses, the overriding impression is one of calculated incoherence and premeditated chaos. It is disquieting, this sense that the confusion is intended—that the Year of Mercy is a feint. Disarray begins to look like the opening move in an endgame designed to bring the Church into more congenial conformity with the world it was charged to leaven." READ MORE HERE

REMNANT COMMENT:
We have had our differences with First Things in the past, true enough, but this outstanding article offers further proof that many former neo-Catholics are simply done trying to prop up the great façade. At this point, any "conservative" Catholic who is still defending the indefensible antics of Pope Francis is as anti-Catholic as many of the Church's declared enemies on the outside.

Pope Francis is out of control.  This is obvious to us, it's obvious to First Things, and it should be obvious to every intelligent Catholic in the world. As Maureen Mullarkey notes of this the latest papal sabotage of Church teaching, "the divorced and remarried have been rebaptized as a victim class, like the poor. This pushes papal politics beyond leftism. We are into crackpottery now."

Indeed. Crackpottery that will destroy the human element of the Church for decades to come if it is allowed to continue.  Pope Francis must be stopped, and all sincere and faithful Catholics must come together and work to achieve that end before it's too late.

This just in from a certain prominent website: "The powerhouse organization of the radical traditionalist Catholic world is a sprawling international order called the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), founded by the late French archbishop, Marcel-François Lefebvre, in 1970. Although there have been recent attempts by the Vatican to pull SSPX back into the Catholic mainstream, the organization, all of whose priests were excommunicated in the late 1980s, has continued to... reject any reconciliation with the Catholic Church.

"Lefebvre was on an advisory committee to the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), which enacted several liberalizing and modernizing reforms within the church. But the archbishop refused to sign the council's final reports on religious liberty and the modern church, the first sign of a rebellion that would only grow in later years. In 1970, he founded SSPX as a seminary in Ecône, Switzerland.

"In 1974, Lefebvre publicly denounced as heretical the Vatican II reforms and the subsequent adoption of the new Mass, celebrated in local languages instead of traditional Latin. As a result, Pope Paul VI ordered the archbishop to shut down his Swiss seminary. But Lefebvre refused to comply, leading the Vatican to suspend his right to perform priestly functions (a step short of excommunication) in 1976.

"In 1988, Lefebvre took his most radical step yet, consecrating four bishops in defiance of the Vatican. Pope John Paul II responded by excommunicating Lefebvre and all SSPX priests, and declaring SSPX in formal schism with the church.

"In recent months, the Pope has extended an olive branch to SSPX members, inviting them to return to the church. But the sect's leaders rejected the suggestion outright..."

REMNANT COMMENT: I'd be happy to link to the rest of this lying piece of leftist propaganda but I'm not in the habit of sending more web traffic to the notoriously far-Left Southern Poverty Law Center.  Yes, that’s right—this slanderous rot has been recycled by the SPLC since 2006 when they first launched their "Intelligence Report" against so-called "radical traditional Catholicism".  The SPLC's full report against the Society of St. Pius X was again regurgitated in 2015 in an "Intelligence Report" that was sent to law enforcement agencies all across the country. Ironically enough, it was sent to me just yesterday and, for a moment, I mistook it for one of Michael Voris’ newly launched attacks on the SSPX.

The SPLC is attempting to coerce government agencies into listing the SSPX as a hate group and to equate the battle for orthodoxy in Christianity in general today with hate and hate groups. To this end, they have targeted the American Family Association, the SSPX, The Remnant, and countless other pro-life, pro-family, pro-Latin Mass groups.

So why is Michael Voris and Church Militant TV spending this entire week trying to vilify the largest traditional Catholic priestly fraternity in the world by conducting a so-called “FBI investigation" of the "schismatic" SSPX? That's a good question. Perhaps we should ask Mr. Voris, especially now during the run-up to the Synod on the Family which promises to blow the human element of the Church into full-blown schism. Michael has nothing better to do? Really?

From our point of view and whether he realizes it or not, Mr. Voris is carrying water for the most dangerous secularist enemies of the Catholic Church today. In attempting to isolate the SSPX as a “radical” fringe group that is “outside the Catholic Church” he becomes a star witness for the SPLC, and thus ultimately aids those who threaten the freedom and wellbeing of large families, hundreds of priests who adhere to the old teachings on marriage and homosexuality, tens of thousands of children, and so many good and faithful Catholics whose only "crime" is to seek refuge in the SSPX and try to save the souls of their children during the worst revolution in history.

The last thing these folks need--the last thing any of us needs at this dangerous anti-family, anti-God and anti-Catholic moment--is Michael Voris trying to boost his ratings by publicly and loudly stabbing traditional Catholics of any sort in the back and playing directly into the hands of the infamous Southern Poverty Law Center.

For heaven's sake, Michael, knock it off! Stop carrying water for the bad guys.

This just in from the Daily Caller: “Don’t expect new Christmas stamps this year because for the first time in decades the U.S. Postal Service won’t issue a new stamp depicting any Christian religious figure or symbol. No baby Jesus. No Mary. And none of the three wise men…

In 45 of the last 50 years, the postal service has printed new images for each Christmas season, including Mary, angels, wise men, Nativity scenes, the Star of David and even Santa Claus. But this year, all of them have been banished from the production presses.

REMNANT COMMENT: Have no fear, however, because there will be “A Charlie Brown Christmas” stamp — including “Linus kneeling by a scrawny Christmas tree, Snoopy and children ice skating, Charlie Brown checking his mail box, Linus leaning on a snowy brick wall and Charlie Brown standing in front of Snoopy’s doghouse. There will be one with Charlie Brown and a Christmas tree.”

Christ was dropped from Christmas long ago, of course, and now replaced by various cartoon characters. Christ was dropped from Easter some time back too, and magically replaced by a rabbit.

But, really, honestly, seriously—there’s no Christophobia in America. For hell's sake, don't be ridiculous!
