ICK Assigned to Parish in Hammond, IN

At the gracious invitation of His Excellency, the Most Reverend Donald J. Hying, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, Indiana, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest will begin a new apostolate at St. Joseph Parish in Hammond, Indiana, starting in mid-November.

The Institute will help to care for the needs of the growing number of faithful in northwestern Indiana who wish to worship according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in the Diocese of Gary and who desire the advantages, both sacramental and pastoral, of such a parish community.

His Excellency, Bishop Hying has proposed the iconic and historical church of St. Joseph in Hammond, Indiana as the new home of the Institute’s new apostolate to the Extraordinary Form. After consulting with the pastor, Fr. Richard Orlinski and the parish community, the Institute will begin its mission in the diocese of Gary on November 11th with a Solemn High Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Hammond at 11:00am. The Mass will be celebrated by the Provincial Superior, the Rev. Canon Matthew Talarico. Father Richard Orlinski remains Pastor of St. Joseph’s at the present time.

Holy Mass will continue to be celebrated in the Ordinary Form in English on Saturdays at 4:30pm and on Sundays at 9:00am. The Institute is nominating Canon Glenn Gardner to be appointed by Bishop Hying as rector of the new apostolate at Saint Joseph’s and eventually parish administrator at a later time. Canon Gardner will be available to care for everyone’s spiritual needs. Thus, he will soon be residing in the St. Joseph rectory.

Beginning Sunday, November 11, Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be offered on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. Daily mass will be offered in the church at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, as well on Saturday morning. Friday Mass will be offered at 6:00 p.m. Confessions will be available daily 30 minutes before each Mass.

Beginning in January, additional Masses and devotions will be added according to pastoral need. On the First Sunday of Advent, December 2, His Excellency, Bishop Hying will visit Saint Joseph’s. Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament will begin at 11:00am ending with Benediction. At 12:00pm, Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated by the Institute’s provincial superior, Canon Matthew Talarico. Bishop Hying will offer the homily. A light reception will follow. Everyone is welcome!

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Bishop Hying, Fr. Orlinksi, the pastor of St. Joseph parish and the whole parish community for the opportunity to serve the Church in northwestern Indiana and to call the beautiful St. Joseph’s church our new home. Together let us all pray to St. Joseph for his help and guidance.
