On the Front Lines of the Global War: An Interview with Catholic Pro-Lifer Will Goodman

My friend Will Goodman’s name was in the news in late March. Goodman was one of nine people charged on Wednesday, March 30 in Washington, DC, with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act during a pro-life rescue mission on October 22, 2020. Will and his companions entered the notorious DC Washington Surgi-Clinic that day and tried stopping the abortionist there, Dr. Cesare Santangelo, from carrying out his routine and grisly business of dismembering children for money.

Normally, when prolifers like Will are arrested, even on federal charges, there is a flurry of news items and then interest among the general public quickly moves on to other things. This time, though, many Americans were transfixed by the coverage. The reason is that the indictment in late March of this year overlapped with another news story, this one involving Lauren Handy, one of the nine charged with federal crimes along with Will. Handy and others had recovered the remains of 115 aborted children from the same Washington Surgi-Clinic in DC, and had reported the incident to DC authorities. Five of those children were obviously late-term abortions, and possibly post-birth infanticides.

I reached out to Will to see what he knew about the incident and to get his thoughts on his indictment and the other cases around the country in which he is involved. Will is a full-time prolifer, meaning he has given up a career and material comfort to rescue women and their children from what Will calls the “American Holocaust,” the “global war” against the unborn and their mothers. In the below interview, part of which was published at Human Life Review in April, Will Goodman provides Remnant readers with an inside look at the work of a prolifer, and the twisted realities of a government and a society in thrall to the culture of death.

Interview with Catholic Pro-Lifer Will Goodman

Jason Morgan: To the extent that you’re able without revealing any sensitive information, can you tell me what transpired with the finding and respectful burial of the human remains in the DC area?

Will Goodman: I was not present at this most recent retrieval and burial. However, I have been involved in other such missions before, including efforts to bribe biohazardous waste removal employees in order to obtain the remains of the babies who were killed, finding small murder victims in garbage containers outside of abortuaries, and engaging in negotiations to bury those human persons killed in IVF [in vitro fertilization] labs as well as at university research facilities that utilize the corpses of tiny children killed by prenatal homicide.

These little ones who were killed in the womb and then thrown in the trash are each unique and unrepeatable human persons created in the image and likeness of Almighty God.

This is difficult and often secretive work. It usually requires much bravery and trust on the part of the contacted employees participating in the culture of death who must be willing to work with pro-lifers. Hence, such missions are typically very frustrating efforts which tend to require a lot of patience and longanimity, while tending to engender much failure and heartbreak. Still, for those who care, the compassionate goal is clearly worth any sacrifice.

I greatly admire the pioneering work of Dr. Monica Miller and Sr. Mary Lang in this field, and certainly am grateful for the courage and commitment of my friend Lauren Handy who helped liberate the remains of 115 poor victims of Cesare Santangelo in Washington, DC.

JM: How did you know where to find the children’s mutilated bodies, and how were you able to dignify them after the horrors they had suffered?

WG: Pro-life advocates and investigators who spend long hours at the killing cartel facilities will discover the schedules of the contracted organizations that remove and destroy the bodily evidence of these brutal crimes for money. Occasionally, there will be whistleblowers from inside the abortion industry and/or their contracted associates who will share the necessary information required to secretly obtain the human victim remains. But this is very rare. Dumpsters and abandoned loading docks have often been the more typical places where the caring find the dead bodies.

These little ones who were killed in the womb and then thrown in the trash are each unique and unrepeatable human persons created in the image and likeness of Almighty God.

JM: Has the mainstream media been telling the truth about what happened?

WG: Ever since Lennart Nilsson’s famous Life magazine photos of humans in the embryonic and fetal stages of development were shown in 1965, the abortion industry and their allies within politics, the media, and academia have been trying to hide or obfuscate the truth about human life in the womb. In his monumental encyclical “Evangelium Vitae,” St. John Paul II calls this coordinated plan the “conspiracy against life” enforced by “silence,” a conspiracy against the preborn victims of abortion and their mothers.

Thankfully, good Catholic, Christian, and pro-life media sites did their due diligence in thoroughly researching the facts and sharing the truth about the 115 victims ransomed from Cesare Santangelo’s DC abortion house of horrors.

One naturally feels all of the sickening sensations and human emotions connected with witnessing savage lethal violence unleashed upon mere babes: sadness, horror, nausea, and grief.

JM: I saw some of the photographs of the children and became almost physically ill. If you could, please describe what was going through your mind as you were recovering the children’s remains—disgust, sorrow, anger, determination to prevent ongoing atrocities?

WG: Seeing the actual faces, arms, legs, hands, toes, torsos, and mutilated remains of innocent victims of prenatal homicide is a disturbing experience that one never, ever forgets. While the photos and videos of such human victims that I saw in the mid-1990s helped moved me from a “passive” to “active pro-lifer,” nothing can really prepare one for viewing the actual bodies of slain little boys and little girls up close. It is an unspeakable horror. At once one can see their beautiful complexity and silent innocence right along with the grotesque torture and terrible physical trauma they each endured without mercy.

One naturally feels all of the sickening sensations and human emotions connected with witnessing savage lethal violence unleashed upon mere babes: sadness, horror, nausea, and grief. At the same time there are feelings of disgust over the terrible injustice, and real anger at our government for allowing such atrocities, not to mention utter disappointment over the media and academic institutions for hiding these insidious crimes against humanity.

If average Americans were allowed to see the dark, brutal reality behind the small vacuous word “abortion,” they would be outraged and would demand an absolute end to this hideous lethal violence! The hard truth would make a complete abolitionist out of every person of honesty, integrity, and good will.

Holding the slain body of one of these precious babies in one’s hands makes me realize that giving up a “normal life” to stop this dreadful holocaust is not enough.

Each time I gaze into the eyes of a brother or sister slaughtered by the abortion industry, I am reminded why I follow others who dedicate their lives to ending this invisible war against God’s most vulnerable children. Whenever I look at the bloodied corpses of the helpless victims of this global war, I wonder with disbelief how such evil could have happened, and I wonder where all of the good people have gone to allow the violent to have their way with the innocent.

Holding the slain body of one of these precious babies in one’s hands makes me realize that giving up a “normal life” to stop this dreadful holocaust is not enough. As St. Francis of Assisi said each day when waking up, “As of now, I have done nothing for Christ!” So, too, can I (and each pro-life or anti-abortion person) repeat such words regarding our own small efforts to protect the defenseless and aid their mothers. We have done little or nothing up till now.

The omissions of virtuous people are much more shocking in some ways than the evil of vicious people. Silence has contributed in such large part to the ongoing American holocaust, which has been so disgustingly nourished by ignorance and apathy. Good people have been as silent as the screams of these tens of millions slaughtered preborn children. Yet, Jesus Christ is not deaf to this chorus of nearly 100 million small American voices. We must become more brave and more outspoken for Him and for His little ones.

“Preach the truth as if you had a million voices. It is silence that kills the world.” St. Catherine of Sienna, OP.

May God grant us the grace to speak with the millions and millions of voices of the slain babies and mothers killed by the culture of death.

JM: What is the Department of Justice going to bring against you and the others involved in the recovery mission?

WG: If the abortion industry had its way, draconian legislation would be signed into law to severely punish and prevent pro-lifers from recovering the bodies of their industry’s victims and uncovering the awful truth. In this present administration, aggressive prosecution would soon follow those who show pity for the fallen and speak on their behalf.

We definitely see such aggression now in the current DOJ as Attorney General Merrick Garland approved a Federal Grand Jury indictment for nine peaceful rescuers who dared try to stop the murders at the late-term abortion facility operated by Santangelo during a sit-in back in October of 2020. Each defendant, including four grandmothers in their seventies, now faces the possibility of an ELEVEN YEAR sentence to a federal prison along with a $350,000.00 fine and three years of federal court supervision! This wanton attack on non-violent activists is not only unprecedented in the 50 years of the US pro-life movement, but also in the 230 years of protest activity in the history of our nation!

As a juggernaut, the international abortion cartel calling itself “Planned Parenthood” continues to swell in size thanks to the cultural normalization of death as a “health care option.”

Does anyone know about these insane federal felony charges? Does anyone care? Will the DOJ get away with banishing to the gulag their ideological enemies who are the friends of the unborn? Time will tell.

JM: What are some other legal complications (e.g., transporting of remains across state/federal lines, outstanding arrest warrants in other states, lawsuits by clinics where the children were murdered, piled-on charges, etc.) that you and the others are facing or will possibly face in the future?

WG: It is difficult to speculate what kinds of immoral and unjust efforts the abortion-political-industrial complex will take to further weaponize the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of US and state government. Their collective assaults on pro-lifers may depend upon a calculus between how much effort they wish to invest in their malice, and how much indifference they anticipate from churchmen, leaders of the pro-life movement, and members of the general public at large. If their maliciousness is matched by equal apathy from good people, those who seek to rescue babies, and obtain and/or bury victim remains, may be soon facing punishments which will bring these pro-lifers into ever closer solidarity with the innocent victims they seek to love and protect and offer compassion.

JM: Is the Biden administration more anti-life than the Obama administration was?

WG: Since 1973, the national Democratic party has been becoming more militantly pro-abortion by the year. The slippery slope of decades of moving phrases from “a woman’s private choice,” to “safe, legal, and rare,” to “a fundamental element of health care,” to the “taxpayer funding of the most basic human right of all women,” has finally brought our nation to a morbid place where some current state legislatures are seeking to decriminalize infanticide well after birth.

Bill Clinton’s pro-abortion administration was eclipsed in its abortion advocacy by the “Obamacare” administration, which has now been rapidly outpaced by the ferociously pro-abortion Biden/Harris administration. The Democratic party’s vociferous defense of child-killing for prenatal babes up to nine months of age, for any reason, with taxpayer funding, has reached its apogee with the present administration. These priorities, again, can also be seen in the recent unprecedented Federal Grand Jury indictment of nine non-violent patient advocates.

JM: Did you see any marked change in anti-life actions under Trump?

WG: Although far from perfect, the Trump administration was in many ways a breath of fresh air for the pro-life movement when compared to that of Obama/Biden. Trump was a mixed bag. While he and Vice President Mike Pence personally attended the March for Life, a massive national symbolic witness, his administration failed to provide much pro-life protection in the vast areas of biotech research, including vaccine development. His Department of Health and Human Services was light years beyond Obama’s in terms of respecting the most vulnerable, but his Department of Justice seemed unconcerned with many injustices in the abortion industry and within academic institutions.

Meanwhile, on the brighter side, many younger people are becoming more actively pro-life and finding creative ways of challenging the main stream media and academia, as well as challenging both political parties.

Trump’s nominations for the Supreme Court will prove their worth in the coming month with the Dobbs decision. Or not. [JM note: About one month after this interview, Politico obtained a leaked draft of a Supreme Court majority decision striking down Roe v. Wade. The decision has not been formally released as of this writing.]

JM: What is the general trend in the USA—is the culture becoming more pro-life while the abortionists and their supporters are becoming more pro-death?

WG: The radical cultural and ideological polarization of the United States in the past eight years finds an amplified microcosm in the battles over “legalized” child killing. What was once the extreme fringe of the “pro-choice” movement has now found a home in the leadership of the national Democratic party and within the current Biden/Harris administration.

As a juggernaut, the international abortion cartel calling itself “Planned Parenthood” continues to swell in size thanks to the cultural normalization of death as a “health care option,” as well as wealthy support from both old money eugenics supporters and younger “progressives” who see this grisly business as an important means for culling human population and curtailing carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, on the brighter side, many younger people are becoming more actively pro-life and finding creative ways of challenging the main stream media and academia, as well as challenging both political parties. New waves of pro-life maternal care centers, vocal groups led by women and minorities, increased pro-life youth activism, renewed non-violent direct action campaigns, increased online/social media educational platforms, growing post-abortion recovery and care work, and novel state legislative efforts—all are reasons for hope that the pro-life forces are building strength on different fronts.

That said, active pro-life American abolitionists are still a very, very slim minority of the total national population. Plus, there are not enough conscientious citizens committed to robust care for mothers and children in desperate need. This must all change if we expect to see any real meaningful and lasting pro-life trends within the culture.

JM: What is your view of the spiritual dimension of this fight? (In my view, the people who mutilated the children found in DC are almost certainly under the influence of the devil. What those people did is satanic.)

WG: Any attack on a living human icon of God is an attack against God Himself. Jesus Christ taught this when He said, “whatsoever you do unto the least of these My children, you do unto Me.” (cf. MT 25:40)

The role of satanism and the occult have always been a hidden part of the modern work to decriminalize abortion and perpetuate the prominence of such morbid violence.

In far off ancient days, when the spiritual enemies of Almighty God lost their war in the Kingdom of Heaven, the devil and his hordes could no longer attack the Holy Trinity directly, so as they fell to earth these demons marshalled their unholy warfare against the beloved of God, most especially against little children.

Ever since the late 1800s, members of the Church have recognized that the secular attacks on the faith, truth, the family, marriage, and human life would be the definitive battle of the twentieth century and the third Christian millennium.

The role of satanism and the occult have always been a hidden part of the modern work to decriminalize abortion and perpetuate the prominence of such morbid violence. Today, this evil is no longer hidden. The “Satanic Temple” and other satanist organizations are engaging in open legislative and legal efforts to defend child sacrifice in utero. These groups are organizing large pro-abortion protests and erecting public billboards and displays in favor of deadly human dismemberment in the womb, not to mention the horrific abuse and exploitation of women by the abortion industry.

If anyone with a soul and a fragment of faith were to seriously contemplate the five victims of Santangelo, they would soon discover that this brutal evil is nothing short of demonic.

Which leads to the following questions: why is our government feverishly defending such evil? Why do powerful cultural forces promote such evil as a “good”? And, why am I not doing more to stop this hideous evil?

A good place to start in a spiritual battle is prayer. But this should be but a starting point. “Ora ET labora,” as St. Benedict counsels.

JM: Will upcoming SCOTUS decisions change the cultural landscape in the USA?

Hopefully. There is much optimism among national pro-life legal scholars that the court will limit the scope of the Roe/Doe cases by a favorable Dobbs majority decision.

There is a spectrum of possible outcomes. One possible example could provide the court supporting a more direct defense of the state’s interest and ability to protect the preborn child. Another possibility would be the so-called “Scalia option,” which would literally throw the entire issue of abortion criminality back to the states. What seems less likely is that the court will do what it should, viz., offer a decisive finding in favor of Fourteenth Amendment protection for all human persons from the first moment of conception. No exceptions.

Many analysts on both sides of the political aisle believe the coming decision this June will usher in a new national situation for the business of killing children in the USA, based mainly upon state ideology.

Many analysts on both sides of the political aisle believe the coming decision this June will usher in a new national situation for the business of killing children in the USA, based mainly upon state ideology. Already the abortion cultus has been preparing many new tactics, including plans to export human killing drugs and devices for pregnant women to consume or use who live in pro-life states. Some leftist states, such as New York, have developed abortion-tourism packages with travel, hotels, meals, and baby murder all included.

There are even corporations which are providing such abortophile packages in their health care plans. Wealthy private, corporate, and possible federal tax monies may be established in trusts to pay for low-income abortion-bound families to travel out of state in order to liquidate some members of their family. Abortion-committing “death ships” are promised to drop anchor in international waters just outside pro-life coastal states and offer free shoreline boat rides to these floating “medical service ships” to obtain the death of the little ones.

Meanwhile, amid such possible new circumstances, the Church and pro-life movement will be working harder in pro-life states to emphasize more active assistance to and greater solidarity with pregnant mothers who would have ordinarily sought death as a solution to their undesired pregnancy. Larger networks of support and education will be a central target of action in these regions.

In the pro-abortion states, the same kinds of present pro-life efforts will continue or need to be upscaled at fully operational abortion facilities, abortion friendly state houses, and abortion supporting cultural apparatuses. Collaboration between national, state, and local pro-life organizations will take on new dimensions of interaction amidst the geographic and regional changes in degree of protection for people living in the womb.

SCOTUS will not end this battle. The American holocaust will continue in some aspects, and initiate a beginning of a new fight in other respects. The continued solution is to lovingly work in fresh ways for equality for the little ones, and with solidarity for their parents.

All branches of the government have the responsibility, duty, and obligation to defend and protect the God-given right to life of every human person from the natural beginning of conception until natural death without exception. It would take a veritable miracle for SCOTUS to do what is needed and required by the judiciary to defend the Constitutional rights of preborn Americans. They are not likely to do what needs to be done, or what God demands of them.

No court or law can make a mother or father love their little one in the womb. This is what is needed to make our nation become a culture of life.

However, there seems to be some reason for hope that Roe will be revised, possibly even gutted.

That said, no court or law can make a mother or father love their little one in the womb. This is what is needed to make our nation become a culture of life. Until we are there, the movement must work congruently with this ultimate goal and demand at the same time that the three branches of government do everything in their delegated powers to ensure that all human persons are protected as “equal under law.”

Again, since this is principally a spiritual battle, the demons of child sacrifice cannot be “voted out of office” or “overruled by the courts” or “arrested by police,” they must be cast out by the power of Jesus Christ the King!

Prayer. Fasting. Charity. Compassion. Sacrifice. Solidarity. Reparation. These must be our primary focus until… “Thy Kingdom come.”

JM: What can people do to support you and the loving, lifesaving work that you and your companions are doing?

I have no personal foundation or tax-exempt organization. I have been relying on God’s Providence since 1996 in order to do this work. God is so good to me… better than I deserve.

For those who would like to support my mission as a rescuer with Red Rose Rescue, a donation may be made to Dr. Monica Miller (https://bringingamericabacktolife.org/monica-miller/) at Citizens for a Pro-life Society (make a note that the donation is for Red Rose Rescue). (http://www.prolifesociety.net)

We are also hoping to set up a large fundraising platform to help us in our huge legal battle against the wicked Department of Justice. Rescuers do not have money to hire attorneys. And pro-life public interest law firms do not have billions of dollars of resources like the Attorney General or US Prosecutor’s Office. In our Grand Jury felony case, we hope to establish a truthful evidentiary record so to argue for Fourteenth Amendment protection for all preborn children, utilize the best pro-life expert witnesses and defense attorneys, and mount an affirmative “defense of others” against our unjust felony charges stemming from our rescue mission conducted at Cesare Santangelo’s late-term abortion house of horrors in 2020.

What will be your answer now? What will be your answer when you face the Divine Judge on the day you die? How will you love like Jesus Christ the Divine Rescuer?

JM: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

WG: Almighty God has given everyone a special command to follow in our day: “Rescue those being taken to their slaughter; do not refrain from assisting those being dragged to their death.” (Proverbs 24:11)

While there are many varied ways to obey this commandment, it must be understood as a normative obligation for all people living in the midst of this apocalyptic assault on the little children living in the wombs of their mothers, and the attack on the sacredness of motherhood and fatherhood.

God does not make a “recommendation” or “suggestion” when life and death hang in the balance—He made a clear and firm COMMAND!

What will be your answer now? What will be your answer when you face the Divine Judge on the day you die? How will you love like Jesus Christ the Divine Rescuer?

Pray on these things. Ask God for help. He will guide you. The babies and moms and dads need your help.

“Love one another as I have loved you.” Jesus Christ
