Hillary's VP Pick Tim Kaine: "A Pope Francis Catholic?"
Hillary Clinton has selected self described "Traditional Catholic" Tim Kaine. Mr. Kaine is so traditional in fact, that he supports abortion rights, public abortion funding, and partial birth abortion. William D’Antonio, a Catholic University sociologist, described Kaine as a “Pope Francis Catholic." The far left ThinkProgress website has just published an article entitled, "6 Ways That Hillary Clinton's Vice President Pick Resmbles Pope Francis."

Some highlights:
Seamless garment Catholic

The idea of ideological consistency is not a popular one in America, especially during this election. But Kaine holds to a Catholic teaching often called “seamless garment,” or consistent ethic of life. How does this belief present in current American political debates? It means Kaine personally opposes abortion, the death penalty, and all threats to human life. His government service, however, has been another thing. As governor, he oversaw several executions and is a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade. “I’ve taken a position which is quite common among Catholics,” he said on Meet the Press recently. “I’ve got a personal feeling about abortion, but the right role for government is to let women make their own decisions.”

Evolving on LGBT Rights

Another point of contention for the left wing of the Democratic Party has been Kaine’s evolution on same-sex marriage and gay rights. Like Pope Francis, he’s evolved on the issue in the past few years. He fully embraced marriage equality in March 2013, but previously faced many questions about his position during campaigns. And again in the Pope Francis mold, Kaine has stressed anti-discrimination and civil rights over arguments about religious ethics. During his 2012 campaign for the Senate, he championed the idea that “relationship equality is a civil right.”

Thus, we are now thrust back to the days of "Catholic" Pro-Choice New York Governor, Mario Cuomo, who famously invented the position that he was "personally opposed" to abortion, but for "a woman's right to choose." This moral fig leaf didn't work then and it doesn't work now. One cannot be "personally opposed" to the killing of babies, yet not lift a finger to give them any legal protection. Similarly one cannot be "personally opposed" to Hillary, yet not lift a finger to see to it she doesn't win the Presidency.

With this "in your face" VP selection, Hillary Clinton has thrown down the gauntlet to all pro-life Catholics. The liberal pro-choice "Catholics" are already glowing over this choice and are ready to go to the polls to elect their man. Will we as faithful, orthodox, Catholics sit home and allow a man who makes a mockery of our faith become Vice-President of the United States?

Pay very close attention at the convention. Prepare to listen to Tim Kaine talk about his deep personal "Catholic" Faith. Prepare to listen to him laud Pope Francis, as he quotes "who am I to judge?" Prepare to hear him defend government coercion of faith based businesses to support immorality. Listen to him talk about his love for Laudato Si as a pretext to support government intervention in all areas of life to stop "climate change." Prepare to hear him advocate for women priests (an impossibility):

When Pope Francis visited Washington, D.C., in September 2015, Kaine attended the pontiff’s historic address to Congress. Before the speech, he issued a statement. “If women are not accorded equal place in the leadership of the Catholic Church and the other great world religions, they will always be treated as inferiors in earthly matters as well,” Kaine said. “There is nothing this Pope could do that would improve the world as much as putting the Church on a path to ordain women.”

Prepare to hear him talk about his being taught by Jesuits and his deep Catholic roots. Prepare to listen to our bishops start to gush over him as is inevitable. Keep your eye on Chicago Archbishop Blaise Cupich and others. Prepare to hear your local "social justice" priest start telling you we need to vote for the "Catholic" ticket this November. Please watch all of this carefully and soak it in. Then let it motivate you to stop this mockery of Catholicism in November.

Consider the following positions of Tim Kaine from: http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/Tim_Kaine_Abortion.htm#12-CC-q1a:

Personally opposes abortion, but keep government out of it

Q: When you first ran as Lieutenant Governor, you were classified as a pro-life Democrat. You're now not considered a pro-life Democrat. How would you describe your abortion position?

KAINE: People use labels all the time. But I'm kind of a traditional Catholic. I don't like it personally. I'm opposed to abortion. And personally I'm opposed to the death penalty. I deeply believe, and not just as a matter of politics, but even as a matter of morality, that matters about reproduction and intimacy and relationships and contraception are in the personal realm. They're moral decisions for individuals to make for themselves. And the last thing we need is government intruding into those personal decisions. So I've taken a position which is quite common among Catholics. I've got a personal feeling about abortion, but the right role for government is to let women make their own decisions.

Don't weaken or subvert the basic holding of Roe v. Wade

I strongly support the right of women to make their own health and reproductive decisions and, for that reason, will oppose efforts to weaken or subvert the basic holding of Roe v. Wade. We all share the goal of reducing unwanted pregnancies and abortions. The right way to do this is through education and access to health care and contraception rather than criminalizing women's reproductive decisions.

Increased access to contraceptive coverage

Tim has co-sponsored legislation to protect female workers and expand access to affordable health care for women. Tim will continue fighting to protect women's right to make their own choices about their reproductive health. He supports increased access to contraception and introduced legislation to restore the contraceptive coverage requirement guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby.

Personally opposed to abortion, but it shouldn't be outlawed

Kaine, a Roman Catholic who worked as a missionary in Honduras reiterated his personal opposition to abortion, but maintained the practice should not be outlawed. When asked if he'd like to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe the Governor answered, "I don't think the Supreme Court should." He continued, "Roe vs. Wade is ultimately about saying that there is a realm of personal liberty for people to make this decision."

Parental consent; ban partial birth; informed consent

While saying that he supports Roe and that he does not want to criminalize abortion, Kaine voiced support for three abortion restrictions. He backs a parental consent law in Virginia which has a judicial bypass. He supports a ban on "partial birth abortions so long as there is an exception for the life and health of the mother". [Editor’s note: Any reason including headaches and depression can be used as a "health" reason for a procured abortion according to the Roe companion case Doe v. Bolton, so any health exception guts the ban. Therefore, it would be a meaningless ban in name only] He also favors an "informed consent provision" in Virginia which requires abortion providers to "give women information about a whole series of things, the health consequences, et cetera, and information about adoption." "Those, I have supported," said Kaine. "But I don't think ultimately we ought to be criminalizing abortion."

Supports public abortion funding.

Kaine supports the CC Voters Guide question on abortion funding Christian Coalition publishes a number of special voter educational materials including the Christian Coalition Voter Guides, which provide voters with critical information about where candidates stand on important faith and family issues. The Christian Coalition Voters Guide summarizes candidate stances on the following topic: "Public funding of abortions"

Fellow Catholics, we've just had eight years of a pro-abortion Catholic as our vice-president. We cannot tolerate another four to eight years of the vice-president of the United States setting a scandalous example for our religion in public office. We must work to ensure that as many Catholics know about Tim Kaine's anti-Catholic positions on all of these issues. The days of Mario Cuomo political cowardice Catholicism are over.  Let's make sure they stay that way.
