What is the West trying to defend in Ukraine to the point of possibly igniting a Third World War?

On May 31, both the US and Germany gave the greenlight to Ukraine to use weapons they supplied to strike targets inside Russian territory, maintaining that their approval only covers targets inside Russia near the border with the northeastern Ukrainian Kharkiv region, where Moscow conducted an offensive recently.

In turn, US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. slammed Biden’s move, posting:

“More insane escalation by the Biden administration — authorizing Ukraine to strike targets deep in Russia. Using our weapons, trained in their use by our trainers.”

For some time already, US Democrat leader Joe Biden had been facing huge pressure from countries like Ukraine and Great Britain to authorize the move, before finally doing so in a key policy shift. The issue of whether to permit Ukraine to use long-range Western weapons to attack targets deep inside Russia had long been the focus of political talk among NATO member states.

The Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which began in February 2022, has reached an impasse in the past year. On June 2, Ukrainian authoritarian leader Volodymyr Zelensky attended the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore to lobby for more military aid for Ukraine. Russia previously signaled that it would not be present at the high-profile security forum in Singapore, while China declared that it would be “difficult” for it to attend if Russia was absent from the conference.

Former Russian president and deputy Security Council head Dmitry Medvedev declared that Russia would “proceed from the fact” that all long-range weapons employed by Ukraine “are directly controlled by military personnel of NATO countries,” highlighting  that “this is not ‘military assistance’, but participation in a war against us” which is a possible “casus belli”.

Besides, Zelensky tried to rally support in Singapore for a peace summit to be held in Switzerland on June 15 and 16, where he hopes to gather widespread backing for his version of how the Russo-Ukrainian conflict can be resolved.

During the same Singapore conference on June 1, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin absolved NATO’s eastward expansion of any responsibility for the eruption of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, putting the blame on Moscow solely instead, in tune with the narrative of Kyiv and its Western backers. When Cao Yanzhong, a Chinese journalist and researcher posited that the “eastern expansion of NATO has led to the Ukraine crisis”, asking Austin about the potential ramifications of the “strengthening of the US alliance system in the Asia-Pacific will have on this region’s security and stability”, Austin responded:

“I respectfully disagree with your point that the expansion of NATO caused the Ukraine crisis. The Ukraine crisis obviously was caused because Mr. Putin made a decision to unlawfully invade his neighbor.”

Additionally, Austin rebuffed Cao’s claims that Washington was trying to set up an Asia-Pacific military alliance, stating that the US was only working with “like-minded countries with similar values.”

On its end, Moscow regards Ukraine’s hopes to join NATO as a major threat to Russia’s national security, thus prompting it to undertake military action in Ukraine in February 2022.

Responding to Washington’s decision to permit Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons to strike targets within Russia,  Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters:

“We are aware that attempts to strike Russian territory with American-made weapons are already being made. This is sufficient for us, and it clearly demonstrates the extent of the United States’ involvement in this conflict.”

Likewise, former Russian president and deputy Security Council head Dmitry Medvedev declared that Russia would “proceed from the fact” that all long-range weapons employed by Ukraine “are directly controlled by military personnel of NATO countries,” highlighting  that “this is not ‘military assistance’, but participation in a war against us” which is a possible “casus belli”.

In wake of current circumstances, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter told Sputnik News that the Kyiv regime and its NATO allies “will lead to Armageddon” and an open conflict with Russia. The military specialist warned that war dynamics could change once NATO-grade missiles “start flying into Russia's territory with the approval of Western countries” according to Sputnik News.

If the West thinks that it therefore has the right to strike, Russian return will lead to Armageddon, the end of the world. That's where we're at today. This isn't a game. This isn't a joke. This is the end of all humanity.”

“France is now giving Ukraine permission to use the SCALP air launched cruise missile against targets inside Russia," Ritter said. "Now [French President Emmanuel Macron] claims it's just military targets, there won't be hitting any civilian infrastructure, but it doesn't matter. The fact is, if the French Scalp missile is used to attack targets inside Russia, this isn't Ukraine defending itself, it's France attacking Russia,” Ritter cautioned, before adding:

“[Russian President Vladimir Putin] knows that it's not Ukrainian space reconnaissance, it's not Ukrainian communications, it's not Ukrainian technicians that are doing the targeting. It is the French, it is the Germans. It is the British. It is the Americans. And therefore, if these missiles, these weapons systems that are now being greenlit by the respective Western nations, to be used by Ukraine to attack targets inside Russia, if this happens, this is no longer about Ukraine defending itself. It's about NATO attacking Russia.”

Ritter then painted a possible bleak future if the West persisted in its policies towards Russia:

“And so the West now will attack Russia, trying to pressure Russia to the peace table. But all it will do is guarantee a Russian response that if the West doesn't respond properly to that, if the West thinks that it therefore has the right to strike, Russian return will lead to Armageddon, the end of the world. That's where we're at today. This isn't a game. This isn't a joke. This is the end of all humanity.”

On June 4, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the US was an “enemy”, with Washington’s refusal to permit Russia Today (RT) contributor Scott Ritter to travel to St. Petersburg as “the latest manifestation of the rabid campaign to prevent US citizens from interacting with the Russian Federation”. However, it remains to be seen if Peskov’s terminology alluded to an official policy change in the Kremlin towards the US.

With the frightening prospects of nuclear armageddon at the world’s doorstep, the question remains:

What is it that Kyiv’s Western backers are trying to defend in Ukraine?

According to many official Western government narratives, reinforced by their academic echo-chambers, the West is “defending the western way of life” by defending Ukraine. When Russia first launched its military operation in Ukraine in 2022, the Western establishment media was awash with notions of “freedom” and “democracy”, ideas Russia was supposedly attacking.

A press release published on the United Nations’ website revealed that Western countries’ provision of military assistance to Ukraine is intended to “support that country’s self-defense against the Russian Federation’s aggression”.

Nonetheless, upon closer scrutiny, one can find that the authoritarian Zelensky regime has been plagued by numerous corruption scandals and is responsible for a state clampdown on religion, in particular, on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

The Ukrainian leader even daringly authorized the expulsion of monks of the canonical Orthodox church from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, accusing them of being Russian agents. Previously, a group of lawyers wrote to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, cautioning that Ukraine’s prohibition of the UOC could lead to “serious harm to Orthodox Ukrainians” and have “dire ramifications for Ukraine’s entry into the European Union and its place in the Western world.”

Evidently, what Zelensky Kyiv’s Western backers are trying to “defend” in Ukraine are their commercial interests, not ordinary Ukrainian people, much less the abstract notion of “democracy”.

Following the Zelensky regime’s crackdown on religion, Russian Church Abroad (ROCOR) Synod of Bishops Chancellor Archpriest Serafim Gan remarked to Sputnik News:

“It is scary not only to say but even to think what will happen with those who destroy shrines and persecute believers.”

“The news of the destruction of the Tithes Church resonated with severe pain in the heart,” Gan added, referring to Ukrainian authorities’ demolition of the chapel of the Tithes monastery in Kyiv.

Apart from suppressing religion, the Kyiv regime is permitting the spread of anti-life and anti-family ideologies to spread in the country, with the knowledge (and tacit approval) of the woke Joe Biden administration. In 2022, Zelensky arguably set the stage towards legalizing same-sex civil partnerships in Ukraine, in response to a petition that urged for “same-sex marriages” to be introduced in the conflict-ridden country.

Zelensky stated that his government had “worked out solutions regarding the legalization of registered civil partnership in Ukraine as part of the work on establishing and ensuring human rights and freedoms.”

Also, the ‘KyivPride’ group – an organization promoting the LGBTQ+ ideology in Ukraine declared that it would organize an LGBTQ+ parade, called the “Equality March “, on June 16 this year.

Furthermore, Kyiv’s Western backers were livid when former Fox news host and conservative journalist Tucker Carlson condemned “corrupt” American media outlets for “fawning pep sessions” with Zelensky but ignoring Russia’s side of the story. Carlson  interviewed Putin earlier this year, angering globalists like Hillary Clinton.

“He says things that are not true. He parrots Vladimir Putin’s pack of lies about Ukraine, so I don’t see why Putin wouldn’t give him an interview because through him, he can continue to lie about what his objectives are in Ukraine and what he expects to see happen,” Clinton ranted on MSNBC.

Where did the so-called liberal Western notion of “freedom of speech” go? Well, as it turns out, other priorities have taken precedence over supposed Western talking points of “freedom”, “democracy” and ordinary Ukrainians’ lives and livelihoods.

During an interview with former President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Jr., Tucker Carlson accused the US, saying that Washington has “betrayed” Ukraine and will ruin the country by “flooding” it with third-world immigrants instead.

Strikingly, Carlson and Trump Jr. concurred that Biden has led the world to the cusp of World War III, and that the US is basically “at war with Russia.”

“No-one’s articulated what victory in Ukraine looks like,” Trump Jr. said. “I don’t know what it means. Is it just like perpetual death of Ukrainians and Russians until they’re all wiped out and Blackrock comes in there and takes over all the farmland? That’s what it feels like to me.”

No wonder more and more ordinary Europeans are realizing the globalist war-mongers’ insidious plans, and are protesting in large droves.

“They’re already selling off lands in Ukraine to foreign investors, and they will flood Ukraine with third-world immigrants and Ukraine will not exist in 50 years,” Carlson assered. “There’ll be no Ukrainian nation. We betrayed them like no other country ever.”

In context, after Zelensky signed a contentious package of land reforms into law in 2020, foreign investment firms like NCH Capital, BNP, and the Vanguard Group now dominate around 28% of Ukraine’s arable land, as per research by the American-based Oakland Institute. The International Monetary Fund and US Agency for International Development also supported Zelensky’s reforms.

Evidently, what Zelensky Kyiv’s Western backers are trying to “defend” in Ukraine are their commercial interests, not ordinary Ukrainian people, much less the abstract notion of “democracy”.

As per a recent survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), around 43% of Ukrainians think that the situation of democracy has worsened in the country under Zelensky’s leadership, Russia Today (RT) reported. Among respondents who indicated a decline in democracy in Ukraine, 28% said the Ukrainian authorities were culpable for such an outcome.

No wonder more and more ordinary Europeans are realizing the globalist war-mongers’ insidious plans, and are protesting in large droves.
