Our Lady of the Rosary: Hope of the World

Today, Holy Mother the Church celebrates the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast is a second-class feast on the 1962 calendar, while earlier calendars list it as a double of the second class, which means it is the second highest ranking a feast can hold. Pope Saint Pius V instituted this feast to commemorate the victory of the Holy League against the Ottomans at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, attributed to Our Lady through the Rosary. Just over 450 years later, faithful Catholics are still asking for the Blessed Mother’s help to gain victory over evil, sin, sickness, and many other types of problems through her psalter.

When I first converted to Catholicism from Protestantism, I was under the impression that the Rosary was a good devotion, but not absolutely necessary. After seeing the work of the Blessed Mother in my life, however, I know that the Rosary is not simply a devotion; second only to the Blessed Sacrament, it is the devotion. The Immaculate Heart is able to do whatever we ask of her if we will only use this precious gift. St. Dominic was unable to defeat the Albigensian heresy until Our Lady presented him with her Rosary.

As the Second Vatican Council, its aftermath and the Novus Ordo Missae have virtually eradicated the Catholic faith from our parishes, we have nowhere else to look but to Our Blessed Mother.

Today, we as children of Mary have not just one heresy to defeat, but countless heresies all under the umbrella of modernism. The Church is in eclipse, as Our Lady of La Salette said. As the Second Vatican Council, its aftermath and the Novus Ordo Missae have virtually eradicated the Catholic faith from our parishes, we have nowhere else to look but to Our Blessed Mother. Seeing that some of us rarely ever have access to the sacraments, we must hold on even closer to the Rosary. In the Father Fuentes interview, Sister Lucy of Fatima says that, essentially, the Rosary is our last hope to overcome the devil.

“God is giving two last remedies to the world: the Holy Rosary and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And, being the last remedies, that is to say, they are the final ones, means that there will be no others,” Sister Lucy said. “Prayer and sacrifice are the two means to save the world. As for the Holy Rosary, Father, in these last times in which we are living, the Blessed Virgin has given a new efficacy to the praying of the Holy Rosary. This in such a way that there is no problem that cannot be resolved by praying the Rosary, no matter how difficult it is - be it temporal or above all spiritual - in the spiritual life of each of us or the lives of our families, be they our families in the world or Religious Communities, or even in the lives of peoples and nations. I repeat, there is no problem, as difficult as it may be, that we cannot resolve at this time by praying the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary we will save ourselves, sanctify ourselves, console Our Lord and obtain the salvation of many souls.”

As though this urgent plea was not enough to assure people of the Rosary’s efficacy, Our Lady has given fifteen promises to those who faithfully recite the Most Holy Rosary. Her eleventh promise lays it out simply, that “You shall obtain all you ask of Me by the recitation of the Rosary.” Our Blessed Mother is now attaching even greater value to the Rosary, even though one would think that the great troubles we face would require even more Rosaries. This is yet another example of the tender, loving, and Immaculate Heart of Mary stopping at nothing to care for her children.

Ever grateful for Mary’s aid, let this feast of her Most Holy Rosary inspire even greater devotion to her, that we would continue to say it daily, or even say all fifteen decades daily. She has promised us that there is no problem that cannot be overcome by the Rosary - no exceptions. While the Church and the world are in total chaos at the moment, and it might seem as though nothing is getting better, Our Lady, in God’s perfect timing, will never fail to care for us, her dear children. Therefore, let us cling to her Immaculate Heart, knowing that she will most certainly provide for us through her Most Holy Rosary.

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Pray for Us!
